Super Bowl watch parties: Eagles, Chiefs fans pack Austin bars

Football fans packed into Austin bars Sunday evening ready to cheer on their teams, win or lose, in Super Bowl LIX.

The Philadelphia Eagles took on the two-time defending champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

What they're saying:

It was a sea of red at the Austin Garden Inn and Studio at Inn Cahoots.

"No one likes green, they look like puke. This is red, this is beautiful, this is greatness right here and that's what we represent," said Chiefs fan Clay Faught.

While it was Chiefs country there, about a mile down the road, Eagles fans filled The Cat's Pajamas.

"Oh man, I didn't even sleep last night," said James Snyder, an Eagles fan. "I mean, this is legacy."

Eagles fans were ready for a comeback after the team lost to the Chiefs two years ago in Super Bowl LVII.

"I think it's our time, like we put in a lot of hard work, we've had some really good seasons and came up short and of course it was a heartbreak the last time we were here against the Chiefs," said Eagles fan Alexis Elliott.

"History repeats itself everyone, one year, two years, we've played the eagles before we know what happens, it's going to happen again," said Faught.

For die hard fans hitting up Austin's bars Sunday, a win is personal.

"Growing up in St. Louis after the Rams left, the chiefs were the only team left in the state, me and my entire family we just kind of switched over," said Chiefs fan Jake Peebles.

"My dad was a really big Eagles fan, I grew up in New Jersey, I’ve been living in Jersey all my life and so my dad just kind of instilled it in me and I've been a fan ever since," said Elliott.

What we know:

Cooper DeJean, Josh Sweat and the Philadelphia Eagles’ ferocious defense denied Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs a Super Bowl three-peat.

The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22 to secure the franchise's second Super Bowl championship.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was named the game's MVP.

If they had won, the Chiefs would have been the first team in the game's history to win three Super Bowls in a row.
