The suspect in connection with the death of 16-year old, arrested and charged.

“Our sincerest condolences go out to the Barrett family. They suffered a tragic loss and the whole police department grieves for them,” said Chief Henry Fluck, Taylor Police Department.

A Sharonda Barrett’s life was cut tragically short the night of August 5. Barrett and her friend were out walking the dog when they were hit by a pickup truck, from behind. Her friend survived, but Barrett died on scene.

“The vehicle struck her and then left the scene of the accident,” said Fluck.

After days, Taylor police did find the suspect's vehicle.

“Once we got the vehicle involved then a lot of things fell into place,” said Fluck.

Taylor police and the Texas Rangers have been working together on the case. Wednesday morning they arrested 21-year-old Missael Lopez of Taylor at a construction site

“We found out where he was working, we went to the job site and arrested him in Austin,” said Fluck.

Lopez is charged with accident involving death. A memorial sits on Old Thorndale Rd. where Barrett died...reminding Taylor residents just how loved she was.

“I have two daughters, and to lose a young daughter like that would just be unimaginable,” said Fluck.

Police say there's no indication if Lopez had drugs in his system.
