The "Last Man on Earth" Will Forte visits SXSW

When we meet Phil Miller, played by the very funny SNL alum Will Forte, he's chatting it up with mannequins and tennis balls with faces drawn on them because a virus has wiped out the population and made him...you guessed it...'The Last Man On Earth.'

This week Forte and fellow show creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the guys behind The Lego Movie, were in Austin for a SXSW panel.

"We've known each other for years and they said 'do you want to write something together?' and we all came up with the idea of The Last Man on Earth," Forte said.

When we meet Phil, he's doing what anyone else alone on this planet would do: bowling with aquariums.

"In addition to the smashing there was also the water pouring out. Seemed kind of fun," Forte said.

And making popcorn on a shopping cart using a blowtorch.

"You have to shoot from underneath and have oil in there. And then it does start popping up. But I actually was very proud of myself because I was able to catch one in my mouth," Forte said.

Being the "last man" doesn't necessarily mean all of the women are gone too.

The quirky Kristen Schaal character Carol shows up and now January Jones's character Melissa is creating a lot of confusion for poor Phil.

"It's really about people and human interaction and...it's really a heightened version of dilemmas that everybody faces...like 'should you be with January Jones?,'" Lord joked.

"Everyone faces that all the time," Forte said.

If you'd like to catch up, you can watch all of the episodes so far on the FOX NOW app.

Otherwise, you can catch the new episode of The Last Man on Earth this Sunday at 8 right here on Fox 7.
