Two bodies found dead inside of South Austin home
Update 5:15 PM
Austin police have classified Friday's discovery of two dead bodies as a murder-suicide.
APD said a caretaker discovered the bodies of Patricia Andrews, 61, and Vinton Andrews, 68, inside of the couple's home on the 7700 block of Whitsun Drive around 8 AM on Saturday. Both victims had gunshot wounds and police believe Vinton shot Patricia before shooting himself.
Detectives suspect that a history of ongoing medical issues with the couple played a role in their deaths.
Two people were found dead inside a South Austin home early Saturday morning. The Austin Police Department said the public is not in any danger however they are investigating the incident as a suspicious death. When Jay Landers went outside to take his dog, Milo, for their usual morning walk they stumbled upon an unusual sight.
"Shock that something like this had happened but we've had some disputes, nothing this severe. So it is rather shocking," Landers, who has lived in the community for over a decade, said.
Austin police said a neighbor called 911 to a house on the 7700 block Whitsun Drive, just off Brodie Lane, around 8 AM for a welfare check.
"The neighbors were just checking on them. It's not my understanding there were any sounds or concerns at that time, they just frequently check on the neighbors," Detective Lee Knouse, of the Austin Police Department, said.
But when police entered the home, they found a disturbing scene.
"Austin police and EMS arrived and soon located two subjects, a male and a female, who were both deceased with obvious trauma," Det. Knouse said.
APD said there were no signs of forced entry and believe the victims were the only ones living at the home. Police said the do not believe there is any threat to the public however for residents like landers the concern is for children that live nearby.
"A lot of the kids (that live in the neighborhood) are in walking distance to the schools so it is kind of unnerving," Landers said.
Investigators did not release the identities, age, or races of the victims. We will give you the latest information as it becomes available.
