TxDOT: At least one person has died every day on Texas roads in the last 15 years

Today marks an unfortunate milestone on Texas roads. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, it is the 15th year that at least one person has died, every day, every year, on Texas roads.

TxDOT said more than 50,000 people have died in car wrecks since the 200. In an effort to end the deadly streak, the department is reminding drivers to stay alert, obey traffic laws, and don't drink and drive.

Becky Ozuna, the TxDOT spokesperson, said the sad reality is many accidents are preventable.

“The tragedy here is that many of these deaths that have been happening over the past fifteen years are entirely preventable,” Ozuna said.

To raise awareness, TxDOT is asking people to use the hashtag #EndTheStreakTX in addition to driving safe.
