Prom season is upon us – often considered a rite of passage for many American teens – and Uber is offering free rides to and from the dance.
The ride-share company said it wants to make sure the night is "stress-free for teens and their parents" by offering two free rides.
Here’s what to know:
Free Uber rides for teens going to prom
What we know:
New Uber teen account users can get two free rides – up to $20 – to and from prom-related events. They will also receive $20 off an Uber Eats order for snacks after the dance.
The deal allows teens to reserve their Uber up to 90 days in advance, or even opt for an UberXL – which can generally accommodate up to six passengers.
The offer began on April 29, 2025, and rides need to be booked by May 31, 2025, the company said.
Dig deeper:
Uber teen accounts are designed for those between the ages of 13 and 17. Parents can add their teen to their family profile and be notified whenever their teen requests a ride, receiving real-time alerts and live trip tracking so they can follow their kid’s ride in the app.
It also comes with safety features like PIN verification, which requires teen riders to give a unique code to the driver before the ride starts, and RideCheck, which monitors the trip in real-time and alerts teens and parents if the ride goes off-course or ends unexpectedly.

The Fine Print:
The offer is not available in California, where only Uber Eats is available for teens in select cities, according to the company.

Big picture view:
Uber launched its teen account feature in 2023, and it has expanded to hundreds of cities across the U.S. It has offered deals for its youngest riders in the past, including to those who failed their driving exam.
What they're saying:
"Prom is such a meaningful milestone for teens, and we want to help make it even more joyful and stress-free—for them and their parents," Georgie Jeffreys, Uber North America’s head of marketing, said in a statement. "With Uber teen accounts, we’re giving teens the freedom to celebrate their big night on their own terms, while giving parents peace of mind."
