*Update* Police make arrest in deadly East Austin shooting

*Update* Police have arrested a man for murder in the August 3 deadly shooting at the Lifeworks Apartment Complex.

Investigators say Bryan Juarez lived at the complex and was coming home when he walked past Christopher Burton and his girlfriend sitting on a bench.

Police say Burton called Juarez a derogatory term and that's when things got heated.

Sgt. Tracy Gerrish with the APD Homicide Unit says, "...Mr. Juarez went to his apartment, retrieved his gun, came back out, confronted Mr. Burton and pointed a gun in his face. Mr. Burton knocked the gun out of Mr. Juarez's hand and a fight ensued. During that fight Mr. Burton was shot four times."

Burton was taken to UMC Brackenridge where he later died.

Police say they believe that the two men knew each other but were not friends.

Investigators also say Juarez did not have a criminal history.

This is an update to a previous story. The original version is as follows:

APD says it is investigating a suspicious death that happened at an apartment complex on Lyons Road. It says that the suspected shooter is in custody and is being questioned.

The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on August 3 at Lifeworks Apartments. The complex is part of an Austin non-profit focused on helping abused and neglected young adults.

Police say a black man believed to be in his 20s was shot to death outside one of the units.

Witnesses say they heard multiple gun shots and then screams.

One person who spoke with FOX 7 says he helped the victim until first responders arrived.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
