Police investigating San Marcos murder
A suspect is in custody following a murder in San Marcos, police said.
The backstory:
On Friday, Feb. 7, around 2:29 p.m., police received a call from a man saying he "killed his wife" and that he had "shot her." The caller then hung up.
The dispatcher tried to return the call multiple times, but the caller didn't answer.
When officers arrived at the home, in the 800 block of River Road, the back door was open. When officers entered the home, they found a woman with a gunshot wound. The woman was later identified as 43-year-old Victoria Valadez.

47-year-old Juan Yanez
Detectives identified the suspect as 47-year-old Juan Yanez. Yanez's phone number was used during the 911 call.
It is believed Yanez had a relationship with the victim.
He was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held at the Hays County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

What we know:
When Yanez left the shooting in San Marcos, he fled to Harris County where he was later involved in an officer-involved shooting.
Harris County authorities said the incident occurred in the 1000 block of Deerpass Drive in East Harris County on Friday evening.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said preliminary information revealed deputies met with out-of-county officers that were attempting to locate Yanez.
Gonzalez said units made contact with the man, who fled on foot. That's when, according to Gonzalez, one deputy fired his weapon.
Following a search, the suspect was located by authorities.
Officials said the suspect was not shot by the deputy.
