We Can Now non-profit's Christmas outreach to homeless in Austin

Between 2020 and 2024, the number of people experiencing homelessness in Austin and Travis County nearly doubled, from 3,000 to 6,000 people.

Antony Jackson co-founder of We Can Now started his non-profit to help the homeless crisis in Austin.

"The reason why this is important to me is because when I was a youth, I experienced homelessness, also experienced it in my adulthood as well. And I just wanted to create something in my city that gave back to people that were in in my past situation," says Antony Jackson co-founder of We Can Now.

'We Can Now' gives supplies to those who are living in the streets, by donating clothes and personal hygiene products.

"We also have our diversion program where we end homelessness, helping people transition from the streets and to stable housing as well," says Jackson.

With the holidays rolling around, the non-profit wants to spread some joy this holiday season.

"We want to make sure that people experiencing homelessness have that same opportunity. So, we're going to be going out, and we're going to be giving great food. We're going to be gathering. We're going to be having some Christmas gifts for them," says Jackson.

Of course, the non-profit needs more help.

"We've partnered with John Paul's Peace, Love and Happiness foundation, the city of Austin, local businesses. And right now, we actually have a $25,000 matching grant from JP's foundation. So we need those donations to come in so we can continue to do the work that we're doing," says Jackson.
