Police have arrested a woman who crashed her car into the Church of Scientology at 2200 Guadalupe.

People inside the building at the time tell FOX 7 that around 9 p.m. on December 14 one of them noticed a car parked oddly outside. Later they say they heard a noise and the car drove up onto the curb and hit the glass doors in the entryway. The car hit a couch which was pushed across the room and hit another set of glass doors.

The witnesses say that they felt the woman drove into the building on purpose because she made an obscene gesture before driving off.

Police say that they received a call about a check welfare on someone in a parking lot at a different location. When they went to check it out, they spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle from the Church of Scientology incident.

The woman has been identified by police as Erin McMurty. Police say she admitted she did drive into the building but it's not clear if it was on purpose.

Police say the incident is considered a hit-and-run. McMurty is in jail and charged with criminal mischief in a place of worship.
