Boy, 11, recovering after going into cardiac arrest during football game: report

An 11-year-old football player is recovering after going into cardiac arrest during a football game in Buffalo, New York over the weekend.
The incident happened Saturday after Marcus took a hit to the chest on the football field at Riverside Park, WIVB-TV in Buffalo reported, citing a Buffalo-area football league. He was also resuscitated on the field using CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED).

WIVB-TV also added that the football league told them police and firefighters responded to the incident and Marcus was transported to an area hospital, where he is recovering.
Breona McCarter, an EMT with AMR, told WIVB that "It definitely was a freak accident, and you can kind of compare it to the situation with Damar Hamlin."
Hamlin, a safety with the Buffalo Bills, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on January 2, 2023, during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Marcus’s brother told WIVB that he woke up on Tuesday and is expected to recover, and Marcus’s team said the support from the community means everything.
According to WIVB, the local football community is collecting donations for Marcus’s family.
