Chubbies celebrates move to Austin with sample sale on The Drag

Clothing company Chubbies has moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Austin and to celebrate it's holding a big sample sale on The Drag.

The sale is going on at 2234 Guadalupe Street which was formerly the Art Store at the Co-Op. It's from 11/8-11/10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

In a news release, one of the company's co-founders Tom Montgomery said, "To celebrate our new home, we want to show Austin what we are made of by bringing out over 10,000 pieces, anywhere from current products, to one-of-a-kind exclusives, and having a good old get together with the community."

The company was founded in 2011 by four guys who all met at Stanford. It's known for its men's weekend wear, especially its signature shorts, but has expanded into women's items.

Co-founder Kyle Hency spoke to FOX 7 Austin about the company's decision to relocate to the Lone Star State. He cited the cost of living compared to California, weather and Austin's entrepreneurial spirit as some of the main factors.

The company's offices are located on South Congress.

Chubbies hasn't been a complete stranger to Austin. It had a pop-up in The Domain for a limited time and an Austin man was chosen as one of the company's Man Models in 2018.
