Local high school students recognized by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
St. Andrew's Episcopal High School students Clara and Hasie Sherman, who are also sisters, received a $2,500 scholarship after being named this year's Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Students of the Year. They decided to give the money they won to 17-year-old Enrique Avila who is a blood cancer survivor.
The Sherman sisters received the prize for helping ore than $255,000 for blood cancer research.
The Students of the Year campaign is a fundraising competition for highly motivated high school students that benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
