2016 Austin Jazz Fest

For the last two days of April, Austin will feel and look a lot like New Orleans.

A local business, Stuffed Cajun Meat Market, is celebrating its second annual JazzFest. The festival, which coincideds with the original Jazz Fest in New Orleans, is a celebration of Texas and Louisiana culture. It also serves as a tribute to the families forced to flee their Louisiana homes during Hurricane Katrina.

"Really all of our ideas started after (hurricane) Katrina.” Kurt Knies, owner of Stuffed, said, “Katrina drove a lot of people west. A lot of people from New Orleans landed in Beaumont, they landed in Houston, and now they are coming to Austin. We have a lot of Cajun’s living here in the Austin area, in the Central Texas area, and they are looking for home and that's what we are trying to bring them," he said.

The 2016 Austin JazzFest will continue on Sunday, April 30th  from 4 to 9 P.M at Stuffed Cajun Meat Market on 5207 Brodie Lane. The event is free.

"Things that remind people of home make them comfortable, make them happy many times, and with all the people from Louisiana that are moving to Central Texas, for different reasons, they find us. they appreciate that we throw the mardi gras parties that we do, they appreciate that we boil crawfish the way we boil crawfish, they appreciate that we bring the music that they miss," Knies said.
