8 homes evacuated after gas main break
AUSTIN, Texas - Eight homes had to be evacuated due to a gas main break in Central Austin late Friday night.
The Austin Fire Department says four units had to respond to the two-inch gas main break just after 10:00 p.m. in the 4500 block of Avenue H. A mandatory evacuation was put in place for the surrounding homes. There were no injuries.
It's believed a water main break near the gas main may have contributed to the problem.
Texas Gas and Austin Water crews are still on the scene trying to repair the break.
