There's a new member on the Austin City Council. Dr. Alison Alter defeated incumbent Sheri Gallo in the District 10 runoff.

Gallo had 36 percent of the vote compared to Alter's 64 percent.

In total, nearly 15,000 people vote or about 22 percent of eligible voters.

Alter is a business owner, neighborhood advocate and former university professor.

During November's general election, Gallo and Alter got the most votes in a four person race but since neither was able to reach the 50 percent mark there was a runoff.

Gallo is the second incumbent to be voted out. District 6's Don Zimmerman lost to Jimmy Flannigan in November.
