AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department has identified a man killed in a crash in Northeast Austin.
Jessie Jay Woosley, 23, was killed after police say he crashed his 2003 orange Chevrolet Avalanche pickup into a pole at the intersection of E. Parmer Lane and Dessau Road.
APD says the Avalanche was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when a 2019 white Hyundai Elantra turned left onto Dessau Road with a protected green turn signal. The Avalanche ran the red light and struck the Elantra.
The Avalanche then hit a metal pole on the southeast corner of the intersection. Woosley was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Elantra were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
APD says this is Austin’s 61st fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 63 fatalities this year. Last year, there were 52 fatal traffic crashes and 53 traffic fatalities.
