APD investigating deadly shooting at North Austin apartment complex

A man is dead after a shooting late Sunday night at a North Austin apartment complex.

Police began receiving reports of gunshots around 11:30PM Sunday at the Midtown Commons at Crestview Station Apartments, bear the intersection of West St. John’s Avenue and North Lamar Boulevard. 

Upon arrival, police say officers discovered a blood trail that led them back to the victim, later identified as Marcel Tramon Pimpton.

APD says officers immediately began performing CPR on Mr. Pimpton. Austin-Travis County EMS personnel took over once on scene. Police say despite best efforts, Mr. Marcel Tramon Pimpton succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased on site.

The crime scene includes one of the Midtown Commons units, but it is unclear whether the victim lived there. 

APD says the motive for the shooting is not yet known. The Travis County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death. 

Police say they do have a suspect, but no word on any arrests or a description. They say there is no danger to the public.

This is Austin’s 12th homicide of 2021.
