APD makes 83 DWI arrests during ACL No Refusal initiative

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department made 83 DWI arrests during a No Refusal initiative over both Austin City Limits Music Festival weekends.

Out of 83 arrests, two were charged with felony DWI with a child passenger, 13 were charged with felony DWI with two or more prior convictions, and 10 were charged with a class A misdemeanor DWI with prior conviction.

Thirty-four arrests were blood search warrants, 32 gave consent to breath samples with half showing a BAC of .15, and 17 gave consent to blood samples.

The initiative was run in conjunction with the ACL Music Festival Day No-Refusal Initiative through assistance from the City of Austin Transportation Department. The initiative ran from Thursday, October 3 to Sunday October 6, then from Thursday, October 10 to Sunday October 13 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day.
