Austin announces new drop off for Christmas tree recycling
AUSTIN, Texas - The city of Austin is offering to recycle your Christmas tree into mulch or compost again this year but the location has changed.
It's no longer in Zilker Park
The new drop off is at 2304 Rollingwood Drive between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday, January 3rd and Sunday, January 4th. If you miss those dates, recycling will also be offered Saturday, January 10th and Sunday, January 11th.
If you are a city of Austin curbside customer, you can set your tree out at the curb on a scheduled collection day.
If it's taller than 6 feet, you've got to cut it in half, and make sure you take all the decorations off.
As for the drop-off site, don't place your tree in a "tree bag" and again make sure you remove all ornaments, decorations, lights and the tree stand.
These are for real trees only.
Mulch from trees collected at the drop-off location will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to Austin residents on Wednesday, January 21st.
