Austin murder suspect captured in Dimmitt County

An Austin man has been arrested in Big Wells, Texas by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force on a warrant for a murder that happened last weekend near the 500 block of East Stassney Lane in Austin.

34-year-old Ricardo Santos is accused of assaulting Fabian Michael Gutierrez. Gutierrez sustained serious injuries and died.

Officials say information indicated Santos may have fled towards the Mexican border on a Greyhound bus and it was discovered that Santos was dropped off in Uvalde.

Investigators looked at surveillance from inside a local convenience store and saw Santos going into a late model, white SUV. Information directed the task force to a home in Big Wells where Santos was seen on the front porch and he was quickly taken into custody.

Santos was booked into the Dimmitt County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Travis County. Bond has been set at $1 million.
