Austin Police Department investigating suspicious death

The Austin Police Department is investigating after a man was found dead outside an Austin apartment complex in the 1800 block of Burton Drive. The man's body was found early Thursday morning, shortly before 6 a.m.

Police responded to what they thought was a wellness check of a man lying on the ground at apartment complex. But when officers arrived they found the man dead.

An officer on scene told FOX 7 the victim had trauma to his body, which is why they are calling his death suspicious. However APD would not elaborate the type of trauma.

Police say the victim's identity will not be released at this time pending positive identification and notification of family. They did say the victim was a black man in his late 30s or early 40s.

Thursday morning, much of Burton Drive was blocked off by crime scene tape as police canvassed the area looking for witnesses and evidence.

Police said they do not have a suspect and are asking for the public's help.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS or text "Tip 103" + your message to CRIMES.
