Austin police search for two bank robbers
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - We are only a few weeks into the New Year and so far the Austin Police Department have already responded to two bank robberies that happened Friday hours apart.
Police officers are now searching for two suspects accused of robbing two separate banks in Austin. Police say the first robbery happened just before 10:30 a.m. at a Prosperity Bank located 11545 Research Blvd., and the second at a Wells Fargo Bank located at 6501 Airport Blvd.
Officials say the two robberies happened within hours of each other.
Austin police say a man went inside Prosperity Bank, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police couldn't say if the man was armed.
Officials described the first suspect as a middle-aged, heavy set white man who is bald.
According to police he was wearing a gray sweatshirt with a white t-shirt underneath.
Police say the man was last seen walking northbound.
Less than two hours later around 12:40 p.m., officers responded to another call about a bank robbery this time a Wells Fargo. Austin police say a man entered the bank, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police described the suspect as a white middle-aged man of medium build with receding dark hair.
Police say the man was wearing dark sunglasses on his head, a dark sweatshirt and jeans.
Officials say the suspect was last seen heading southbound on foot.
No one was injured in either robbery.
Officers say they don't believe the two crimes are connected.
