Austin Water: Air trapped in tap water may create cloudy effect
Austin Water says many of its customers are experiencing cloudy or milky looking water when they use the tap because air is trapped in the water. Most of the incidents of cloudy water have been in north central Austin.
Austin Water technicians have been working to flush lines throughout the area since December 10 to alleviate the problem. Water quality was tested in the field during the flushing activities and the water is safe to drink.
The problem was caused by an air compressor inserting too much air into the water at a water treatment plant and Austin Water says it has since been corrected. Flushing activities and customer use will move the water out of the system and it may take a day or so for the trapped air to dissipate from the distribution system.
