Austinites get leg-up on Black Friday shopping

Hundreds of people were lined up outside stores for hours on Thanksgiving.

Some shoppers came searching for deals while others came with game plans in mind like Kathy Wagner and her daughter. "You don't want to carry a basket you know, you don't want to carry a lot,” Wagner said. “You can carry more with two people though."

Wagner said she liked spending the rest of her Thanksgiving Day with her daughter bonding over shopping deals.

Some shoppers waited outside of JC Penny in Southpark Meadows for more than four hours. The Martinez family was first in line hoping to score a $500 coupon.

One shopper scored a $100 coupon. "Probably buy gifts for my family...yeah my boyfriend...my dogs...mostly my dogs,” the lucky shopper said.

The hot ticket item at Toys “R” Us is LOL Dolls. Similar to bath bombs kids place the ball in water, the item fizzles and a trinket or a doll is revealed.

Staff at Toys “R” Us in South Austin said they anticipate thousands of shoppers this Black Friday.
