Authorities continue search for missing swimmer

The search will resume Saturday morning for a teenaged girl who went swimming with members of her church group before slipping beneath the waves.

The group left from the VIP Marina at Volente Beach Thursday morning. Divers searched the water around Geronimo Street about a mile from the marina.

The Travis County Dive Team and Lake Travis Fire-Rescue and are hoping technology can help them in their search.

"Lake Travis Fire-Rescue came in and started using their sonar equipment. They searched for a while but were unable to find her," said Lisa Block, Travis County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson.

They aren't alone in the search. Block says just Friday morning Texas Parks and Wildlife joined in. The recent floods are making the mission difficult.

"The water is very murk hard to see anything in front of you so when divers go in they're basically going into the dark," said Block.

Authorities believe the girl was holding onto a boat platform while in the water, and let go.

The teen was last seen with a group from the Austin Ridge Bible Church before the accident. It was supposed to be a day of fun while wake boarding. As each day passes, investigators will continue to comb for any signs of life.

"We are certainly thinking about the family and her friends and everyone who was there yesterday and people who are experiencing the pain of not knowing what's happening," said Block.

Investigators are not releasing the girl's name at this time.
