Police identify pedestrian killed in North Austin; suspect vehicle fled scene
AUSTIN, Texas - Austin police have identified the man killed in an auto-pedestrian crash in North Austin Wednesday afternoon.

What we know:
APD says on April 1 just before 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a crash at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and Rutland Drive.
The suspect vehicle had fled the scene and the pedestrian, identified as 40-year-old Mario Alfonso Garcia Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
By the numbers:
Gonzalez's death marks Austin's 20th fatal crash of the year with 20 deaths.
In 2025, by April 1, Austin saw 21 fatal crashes with 25 deaths.
