Bastrop man in jail after police say he sexually assaulted a child at a courthouse
A Bastrop man is in jail after police say he sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl in early June.
The 28-year-old was on probation and working at the Bastrop County Court House for community service. Police say the little girl was at the court house with her family, she's the one who was brave enough to speak out.
Court records show 28-year-old Harlen Haney followed the little girl and her brother into the bathroom on June 12, that's where she said he sexually assaulted her.
Haney was caught on surveillance camera, investigators say he was seen passing by the little girl and her brother before it happened. Later in the video, he is seen entering but doesn't leave.
Haney was arrested on June 16th and charged with indecency to a child. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Court records show he was on probation for a 2014 theft case
“We've grown from small town good mentality to there's real dangers in the world so it's not totally surprising to me,” said Bastrop County resident, Julie Harvel.
The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office also declined our request for an interview.
