KINGSLAND, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - TxDOT has finished construction of the new 2900 bridge in Kingsland, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. The previous one had washed away in floods last October.
The last moments of the previous RM 2900 bridge were captured by Kenneth Smith. In the morning of October 16th, sections of the road deck were flipped and washed away by flood waters rushing down the Llano River. The bridge was built to withstand a 50 year flood; it lasted 49.
The construction of the new 2900 bridge lasted 6 months and cost $17.3 million.
Kingsland is having a big event to celebrate the opening of the bridge, with proceeds going to post-flood relief as some of the area is still recovering.
Steven Sarabia will have more tonight on FOX 7 Austin.
