Brush fire continues in Burnet County

A brush fire in Burnet County continues to burn. Fire crews have been battling the fire located on County Road 108 in Burnet, since Sunday.

As of Monday evening, the fire was 60 percent contained, and close to 800 acres had burned. The Texas A&M Forest Service is investigating the cause, however, one Burnet County official says he knows what it was.

“We believe there was a hay bale that spontaneously combusted. I was there a few minutes ago. I know it sounds odd, but it looks like that is what started it,” said James Oakley, county judge.

Resources are being brought in from all over.

“Some of those include a heavy air tanker, three of the smaller air tankers, and then we've got one large helicopter and one small helicopter that are doing retardant and water drops,” said Clay Bales, spokesperson for Texas A&M Forest Service.

If you wish to donate water and food to firefighters, drop the goods off at your local fire station. Burnet County is under a burn ban.
