CAUGHT: Man who tried to carjack news van; stole police car with prisoner
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Police have identified the man who arrested for attacking a police officer and stealing her police car after he crashed into a news van and tried carjacking it.
Alex Allen Jenkins, 29, is charged with aggravated robbery and assault of a peace officer.
It happened around 4:00am Monday, when the unknown suspect crashed a Chevy Malibu into the side of a KPRC news van in downtown.
Both vehicles stopped and the driver of the Malibu jumped out and tried to take the news van, pulling on the driver.
A police car happened to be driving by at the moment, and stopped to assist.
The suspect from the Malibu attacked the female officer, jumped in the police unit and took off with the police car, which had a juvenile prisoner in the back in handcuffs.
Carjacker then let the prisoner out a few blocks down the street.
Officers later found the police car on Produce Row abandoned in some bushes.
The KPRC photographer and reporter, along with the police officer, were transported to the hospital in stable condition.
