Cedar Park fatal shooting suspect found dead
The backstory:
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Several agencies responded to reports of gunfire inside a home in Cedar Park.
The Cedar Park Police Department reported the scene in the 2600 block of Stapleford Drive between South Bagdad Road and Bell Boulevard down the road from Lone Tree Park on February 2.
That's not too far from Leander High School.
Timeline:
At around 8:30 p.m. on February 2, Cedar Park police arrived on the scene as a gun was being fired from inside a home.
After speaking with the residents, officers were told another family member was still inside.
Police then entered the home, with no sight of a shooter, and found an injured man who was later pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save him.
After that, several agencies, including a SWAT team, set up a search area for the suspect.
At around 11:30 p.m., officials say police found their suspect dead from a "self-inflicted" gunshot wound.
What they're saying:
A resident told FOX 7 Austin she has lived in the neighborhood for 24 years and had never experienced anything like this before.
"It was like a movie," Stephanie said.
Stephanie said on Sunday night she went to the grocery store down the street.
"My husband was calling and said there's a bunch of sirens, I don't know what's going on, like, they sound like they're close and then he called back and said they're on our street, something's going on on our street," she said.
She said when she pulled into her subdivision, it was shocking.
"A cop came up to my car and I was like, can I get to my house, and he's like, no, not right now, and so I had to wait," Stephanie said.
She says she was told there had been a shooting.
"There was helicopters and drones flying, you know, so we just, it was just a lot of activity, unbelievable," Stephanie said, who added that she also saw SWAT on the back of a truck driving through the neighborhood with their rifles "like they were searching for the suspect."
"I hope the wife, it was the wife that was being interviewed in my yard, I hope she's okay, you know, you know, as best as she can be, but, you know, just in the thoughts and prayers," Stephanie said.
