Central Library closed due to maintenance issue

Austin Public Library has announced that the Central Library is closed today (6/27) due to a lack of water.

Cookbook, the restaurant located in the library, is also closed due to the same issue.

A library official says that the library use a rainwater harvesting system for the restrooms and sprinkler system which can store up to 360,000 gallons of rain water. There is a separate system for drinking water.

Officials say a leak occurred in the rainwater pumping system so there was no water for the restrooms.

The decision to close was made due to the amount of visitors the library has throughout the day.

Crews are working to fix the leak and the library hopes to reopen tomorrow morning.
