Central Texans answering call for help after Orlando shooting

People injured in the nightclub massacre are in need of blood transfusions. The Blood & Tissue Center of Central Texas has already sent blood supplies and it says more donations are needed. The center is located at North Lamar near 45th Street.

The day after the shooting, the center was able to aid victims by sending blood to Orlando. As a result, people from our area who donated in the past two months are directly responsible for helping victims.

As survivors were being treated, hospitals in Orlando announced an urgent need for blood donations. Texans joined people from all across the country to help.

There are expected to be lines to donate as more answer the call the help. Officials say those with blood types O negative, O positive and AB are most needed.

To donate blood there are a few requirements:

  • You must be at least 17 years old
  • You must weight at least 115 pounds
  • You must be in generally good health and feeling well

June 14 is World Blood Donor Day so blood banks are hoping it inspires people to help.
