City council adopts Austin Strategic Mobility Plan
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The Austin City Council has adopted the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan Thursday after hearing feedback from thousands of residents and community members.
The plan replaces the regional Austin Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan that was adopted in 1995 and is the first locally-focused transportation plan for the city.
Cap Metro issued a statement from their board chair Wade Cooper and CEO Randy Clarke saying that the adoption "reflects our community's desire to see major improvements to mobility."
"This commitment will allow us to broaden our choices for transportation, making our city a more connected, affordable, sustainable and equitable place to live," the statement said. "The ASMP also lays the groundwork needed to secure dedicated pathways for rapid transit and overall policy for prioritizing transit."
