Coffee shop robbed, again

Police are looking for a suspect they say robbed a Central Austin coffee shop. The owner says it's the second time within the last 45 days.

Kick Butt Coffee shop owner Thomas Gohring says the man in the surveillance video could be the one who stole an employee's purse and used the shop's check card Thursday.

“All of her cards got stolen and the keys to the shop, and her passport. Bank of America called me and they were wondering about all these transactions,” he said.

Surveillance video shows the suspect buying cigarettes just down the street from the coffee shop.
Gohring used the reports from his bank and information from the shell station to put a time stamp on the suspect.

“Last month her purse was stolen out of the office. So this is the second time within forty days,” Gohring said.

He says it happened during the coffee shop's lunch rush, when the suspect could have easily walked to the back and opened the office door, which may have been propped open.

“With the growth of this area, with A.C.C. coming next door, we've expanded our space there are a lot more people coming through here,” he said.

Gohring will be double checking his combination locks and possibly putting in a camera to be on the lookout.

APD is investigating the crime. Kick Butt Coffee, Music and Booze will continue to operate and hope the suspect can find it in his heart to return the items.

“Man return her stuff. It’s the Christmas season, it’s not cool,” he said.
