Colin's Hope volunteers raising awareness about water safety

Two volunteers from the organization Colin's Hope will spend the day swimming up Lake Austin. They plan to go 13 miles to raise awareness about the danger of drowning and how quickly it can happen. This comes after two children drowned in Travis County in the last two weeks.

Drowning is the number one cause of unintentional death for children under the age of five. 64 children have died from drowning statewide so far this year. It's a high number and Colin's Hope aims to prevent similar deaths.

The volunteers are swimming 13 miles because Colin Holst would have turned 13 this year had he not drowned in a public pool, that did have lifeguards, in South Austin in June 2008.

Holst's family started Colin's Hope to educate and raise awareness as well as get people, especially parents, talking about water safety and drowning.
