Details on church shooting suspect Devin Kelley

Comal County Sherriff’s deputies have been parked at the property of Devin Patrick Kelley’s family’s home all day near New Braunfels, Texas blocking the entrance.

Neighbors told FOX crews they often hear gunfire coming from the property.

The Summit Vacation and RV Resort is nestled in a quiet corner of New Braunfels on the beautiful Guadalupe River.

According to management, the security guard post is where accused mass shooter Devin Patrick Kelley spent the last month and a half of his working life. The 4 p.m. to midnight shift.

Claudia Varjabediam and Theresa Reed are both on the management staff at summit.

"We were told that he made his rounds and we have some people that are actually residents here and they commented they were real pleased that he was doing his rounds" Varjabediam said.

"He needed help here and there but for the most part he did his duties and went home,” Reed said. “He was very quiet and kept to himself. Most of the people around here, as you can tell were talkative. He was not talkative at all."

Varjabediam and Reed said Kelley was one of their three security guards. He was unarmed and, to their knowledge, never had weapons with him at work.

According to DPS, Sunday's horrific mass shooting was the result of a domestic situation not religiously motivated.

Law enforcement records show the New Braunfels High School graduate has a history of domestic violence complaints. Also an animal cruelty charge.

He was discharged from the Air Force for assaulting his wife and child. His former in-laws attend First Baptist in Sutherland Springs but weren't there Sunday.

Kelley was found dead in his vehicle Sunday afternoon after what authorities believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Varjabediam and Reed say Kelley was supposed to have worked Sunday afternoon.

"She had to stay until Devin came in. But then at 5:15 we found out that Devin was not going to come in,” Varjabediam said “So therefore she stayed until we got a security guard to come in.”

“We found out about him just before we left but I still had a really hard time believing it until I saw the picture. Then I freaked out,” Reed commented.

Varjabadiam just wants to know why.

"The most hurtful thing to me right now...to think about all those families that don't have anyone. Just sad. Very sad."
