Donald Trump holds rally in Dallas

People were filing in to the American Airlines Center on Monday afternoon to hear from the unexpected GOP presidential frontrunner – Donald Trump.

An estimated 20,000 people are expected to show up to the Dallas rally, the first visit by Trump to Texas during his presidential campaign. Some attendees started showing up before noon, with the doors opening for everyone at 4 p.m.

One woman told FOX 4’s Shaun Rabb that she doesn’t agree with everything Trump has to say, but she still believes he’ll make America better. She compared him to medicine that tastes bad, but will still make you better.

While Trump continues to poll well across America, there is also a big anti-Trump movement in North Texas. Protests are planned for outside the AAC.

Just before noon the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood and Minister Dominique Alexander added their voices to Hispanic groups that have blasted Trump for wanting to send 11 million illegal immigrants back to their native lands.

“This afternoon I call on the people of Dallas to not sit back and think that Mr. Trump is funny. I mean, he is very funny. There’s no sense in skirting around it. He is very amusing. But he’s amusing for all the wrong reasons. Don’t sit on the couch and just laugh because you might be laughing as he gets elected President of the United States,” Hood said.

Trump has billed Monday evening’s event as one that will include a major speech. Tea Party favorite Katrina Pierson is scheduled to speak ahead of him.

All of the complimentary tickets have been claimed, but some are still up for sale online for as much as $200.
