DPS trooper vehicle crashes into bus filled with school children
AUSTIN, Texas - A student is sent to the hospital after a bus crash Monday afternoon.
It happened around 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Springdale Road.
Officials said an Apple Company bus carrying 30 students from KIPP Austin leadership elementary and KIPP Austin Vista was involved in a crash with a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper cruiser and another vehicle.
According to DPS, the trooper was traveling eastbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard approaching the intersection with Springdale Road when, for an unknown reason, struck the rear of a 2006 Suzuki SUV turning left onto Springdale Road. The DPS vehicle then struck the bus which was stopped at the intersection of MLK Blvd. and Springdale Rd.
DPS reported that three children of unknown ages were transported to Dell Children’s Medical Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Officials also said the driver of the Suzuki sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The trooper was also treated for minor injuries and was transported to Seaton Dell Medical Hospital said DPS.
As a precaution, another student's family decided to take their child to an urgent care clinic.
No one else was hurt.
