Drowning at Lake Travis

A 22-year-old male swimmer drowned at Lake Travis on Saturday.  He was swimming at Paradise Cove Marina with his family when he went under and never resurfaced.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, a family member reported the drowning to authorities around 6p.m.

Dive teams searched the water for 30 minutes but did not find the man. Thats when the search transitioned to a recovery operation, meaning the possibility that the man would be found alive was very low.

A spokesperson for TCSO says the area where the man was swimming is very dangerous. All this year's rain has filled up this part of the lake and there is a lot of brush underwater.

Althought authorities tried to keep family members out of the water, they were unable to do so.

Around 7:45 p.m., a family member recovered the swimmer's body and pulled it from Lake Travis.

"Lake Travis is one of those places where people are encouraged to come out and enjoy and this is an area where it's easy to get to the shore line.. But, as always, anytime you're in the lake, it's not like a swimming pool. It's a dangerous place and anytime you're in the water you should be wearing a life vest," said Kristen Dark with the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating into this man's death.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
