Ex-Westlake teacher's arrest sparks social media firestorm; affidavit released

UPDATE (Video): Since news broke of Haeli Wey’s arrest yesterday, she is being praised on social media, despite the fact that she is facing very serious charges and despite the fact that there are two teen victims whom she allegedly preyed upon. Many, however, are raising the question: if she were a man, would the reaction be the same?

Haeli Noelle Wey, 28, was charged with two counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student. Both charges are second-degree felonies.

10:57 a.m. Travis County Sheriff's Detectives arrested a former Westlake High School teacher on Friday following two alleged "inappropriate relationships" with students at the school.

FOX 7 obtained the Affidavit for warrant of arrest.

Part of the affidavit reads as follows.

The TEA told FOX 7 Haeli Wey voluntarily surrendered her teacher certification on Tuesday. Travis County set her bond at $150,000. The Sheriff's Office said she was released tonight on her own personal recognizance, meaning she didn't have to put up any money, but she will have to if she violates any of the terms set for her.
