Fatal car accident in Northeast Austin

A man is dead following a crash in Northeast Austin Friday night. According to the Austin Police Department, the crash was caused by two men who were racing each other when one of them lost control. 

It happened around 8 30 pm on Dessau Road near Rundberg. 

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, two vehicles were involved in the crash and at least one person was ejected. A man in his 20's was pronounced dead on the scene and another man was taken to a local hospital with possible serious injuries. 

Police say witnesses tell them that they were passing cars northbound on Dessau. At one point, the driver of a red Sedan tried to pass a vehicle in the center lane. That driver lost control, crossed the center divider, and slammed head on into a white van. That driver was ejected from his car and died instantly. 

According to police, that driver was a 30-year-old Hispanic man who was not wearing his seatbelt.

The driver of the white van was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The other driver was was racing took off from the scene. Police are searching for that other driver who was racing.
