Final day for early voting in May 7 special election

Today is the last chance to cast your ballot for the May 7 special election. Since early voting began on April 25, nearly 44,000 people, or about 7.5% of registered voters, have cast their ballots in Travis County.

The polls close at 7 p.m. As long as you're in line by that time you'll be able to vote. 

You'll need a photo ID to go vote and if you miss out on voting day you can vote on May 7 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Get more information about voting requirements and locations here.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler spoke to Good Day Austin anchor Lauren Petrowski about the special election this morning. He addressed the most contentious issue on the ballot: new regulations for ridesharing companies.

A "Yes" vote to Prop 1 means you're siding with the rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft and rejecting the city's regulations.

A "No" vote means you side with the city and want stricter requirements for ridesharing companies. That includes fingerprinting, background checks for drivers, distinctive emblems to identify the company's vehicles and banning drivers from loading and unloading passengers in a lane of a traffic.
