TAYLOR, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - A fire Tuesday afternoon damaged a lodge in Taylor, according to police.
Coupland Volunteer Fire Department posted about the fire at SPJST Beyersville Hall on Facebook around 2:30 p.m., asking people to avoid the area of FM 619 and County Road 448.
The Thrall Police Department confirmed that the hall suffered some damage and that the Thrall, Coupland, Taylor, Weir, Hutto, Round Rock, Pflugerville and Georgetown fire departments as well as Williamson County EMS were on scene.
The hall is home to Lodge #48, a chapter of SPJST, a fraternal benefit society that participates in and preserves Czech history and culture in Texas, according to their website.
Lodge #48 celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2003, according to Taylor Press.
The hall was built in 1928 using lumber from a church, according to Taylor Press. In the early 1960s, the building underwent renovations, adding indoor bathrooms, a storage room, a kitchen area, a bar and space for tables. The lodge underwent renovations again in 2003 and the restorations were finished in 2006.
