For safe keeping, have holiday packages sent to Round Rock Police Department

Gift giving time is just around the corner and residents in Round Rock can save their packages from Grinches by having them delivered to the round rock police department.

Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said his department has seen an uptick in package thefts in the area and across the nation and hopes by launching Operation Front Porch the department can put a stop to it. "We don't want you to be that victim so your packages can be delivered here and you can have that piece of mind," Chief Banks said.

Packages will be stored in a room ready for pick-up through December 22nd. Police Chief Banks said records staff will be on standby to collect packages freeing up officers to respond to high-priority calls.

This holiday season UPS expects to ship 750 million packages.

Leaving residents like Akeil Joseph grateful Round Rock police are stepping up.

"Most of the time I'm here but if I' not here that's the one place I'd want it to go is to the police station because I know they're a bunch of good guys up there and would not have a problem getting my stuff," Joseph said.

The police department asks that residents bring a photo ID and proof of address and a gift for Round Rock Operation Blue Santa. A program that helps provide gifts for families in need.

Packages can be shipped to 2701 North Mays Street, Round Rock, TX 78665.

Packages must be under 50 lbs and be picked up within two days.
