Ford is recalling more than 179,000 vehicles after identifying a defect in the front seat frame that could raise the risk of injury during a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Dig deeper:
The recall covers 62,255 Ford Bronco SUVs and 117,443 Ford Ranger pickup trucks from model years 2024 through 2026.
Regulators say the issue involves a pivot bolt in the front seats that may loosen or come out entirely. If that happens, the seat may fail to properly secure an occupant, increasing the likelihood of injury in a collision.
The NHTSA report notes there have been no reported injuries or incidents related to the defect so far and does not detail how the issue was discovered.
Why you should care:
Because the recall involves popular Ford models, a significant number of drivers could be operating vehicles with a potential safety concern affecting passenger restraint.
What they're saying:
Ford did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
What you can do:
Dealers have been instructed to inspect the affected components and replace the pivot links and bolts if needed at no cost to owners. This repair is considered a temporary solution.
Owners will be notified by mail about the recall by May 11, with a follow-up letter expected in July 2026 outlining a permanent fix.
The action comes shortly after a separate recall of more than 140,000 Ranger trucks in the U.S. tied to a wiring problem that could increase the risk of fire.
According to the NHTSA, that issue involves a sun visor wiring component that may be improperly routed or excessively taped.
Owners seeking more information can contact Ford’s customer service line at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26S30.
Vehicle owners can also check whether a vehicle is affected by searching for their models on NHTSA.gov.
