FOX 7 Discussion: Violet bags pilot program

The City of Austin is expanding a pilot program that gives Austin's homeless a way to collect their own trash and leave it out for pick up.

Since July, more than 2,000 violet trash bags have been handed out in selected homeless camps. The program is adding another trash pick up site and testing more collection methods.

The program ends at the end of October, and recommendations could be made to extend the program city-wide.

Austin Parks and Recreation Department supervisor Wes Bickham joins Marcel Clarke to discuss the program.
