Goddard School conducts Annual Toy Test
A pre-school here in Austin is taking part in a toy test just in time for the gift-giving season. Soon, they will compile a top ten list of favorites as a guide for parents.
"The toy manufacturers all submit application to Goddard systems trying to get into the toy test. Our education advisory board looks at all the applications, all the toys and choses toys that matches our purpose of educational play and learning through play the best,” said owner Jennifer Burton.
School owner Jennifer Burton says her campus is one of 50 in the nation participating. While students are playing, teachers are evaluating.
"We're most interested in toys that promote learning. So in this classroom we see a lot of color matching, a lot of engineering and building, number recognition,” said Burton.
In the two-year-old class there were clear standouts including Peaceable Kingdom's Monkey Around game.
"The children love putting the banana on their head and putting it on their belly and learning all these different positional words it's a great way for them to practice and it incorporates their silliness,” said Burton.
Smartmax My First Safari Animals was also a hit while the xylophone fell flat.
In the four-year-old room, Melissa and Doug’s Star Diner Restaurant Play Set and Learning Resources Lil' Lemonade Stand Off got the most votes.
Teachers will compile the results and release the top ten list the first of November just in time to help parents with their holiday shopping.
