Gov. Abbott hosting safety & security roundtable session

Governor Greg Abbott is hosting the first roundtable session at the State Capitol to discuss safety and security at Texas schools.

It's the first of three scheduled for this week. Gov. Abbott is seeking input from school and law enforcement officials from across the state.

The meeting is expected to focus on the best practices for protecting students. The governor is hoping it will lead to solutions on how the state can improve security in school districts as well as strategies that benefit communities.

Those expected at the session include Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus and several other prominent committee chairs and superintendents.

The closed meeting is scheduled to being at 1:30 p.m.
